Getting USB device to be readable

But df does not recognize the card, it doesn't show up:

I am not sure what to put in /etc/fstab but need to do something to get it detected (the file system).

If I put the card in my CF slot, it shows up as follows, so I know there is an ok file system on it:

/dev/hda1 on /usr/mnt.rom/cf type vfat (rw,noatime)

What do you mean you have a CF card in the USB port? That may be your issue right there... :)

I assume you just mistyped, but slightly humerous nonetheless.

This is so much work, having to learn usb device commands and figure out what is going on.

I could write a book about this adventure, but I won't. All I can say is that I can hardly wait until I can figure out what is going on.

There's a lot of stuff out there about how to do this stuff, but none of it fits precisely.

Now the adventure includes my discovery that sometimes cards mount and are recognized, sometimes they aren't, and I haven't figured out what the difference. Now I have mounted all 5 of the Lexar cards at least once or twice each, but all have also given me "No such medium or device" from mount attempts. It's an ongoing saga...sigh.
