I have just revised my webpage which has examples of handy short shell scripts. It is something that might be fun to try out, for command line newbies, but definitely not a major tutorial, although it does link to a few of my other pages.

I use GUIs when they are more appropriate, but the command line is my home on my Zaurus, because I can do so much more so efficiently and with more control when I use it.

It's an informative page that has a nice literary tone.

I learned a couple things. thanks!

P.S. Just curious, why would you want to see how much free space is left after the application has finished?

For debugging purposes,

For debugging purposes, especially if it crashed due to OOM! It shows how much memory is definitely not enough.

And, to see if I want to clear space again before going on to the next activity. The more free buffer space, at least on my early Sharp ROM, the faster and better my Z's performance.

Thanks for the complement. I guess you didn't see the page when I posted a link to it on the old ty?

It also tells me how much buffer space is eaten up by running an app that doesn't come back immediately.

Some apps increase free buffer space when they load because of the way they handle files, others decrease it.

But, again, this depends on your files and ROM. When my main SD card is in, I get a lot more buffer space freed up by running the find than I do on the alternate, I guess because of the larger number of files on the main card.

DarkStar and qpdf also can clear buffer space for me, but "find" is so much faster. badblocks command checking the SD card clears a lot of space, but takes too long, ten to twenty minutes, I don't recall exactly.

I'm also curious ;), which stuff was new for you? Part of what makes writing these pages fun and gratifying is knowing when people find them helpful, and then writing more of the same kind of stuff when I can.
