Hi I'm Wolfstein, I'm Spanish ... and my Sharp Zaurus SL-5500S don't want run.
The led's don't lighting, and the collie is off.
I find instrucctions to repair the PDA.

I've never owned a 5X00 zaurus, so maybe users like sdjf can offer better advice, but I'll try to help.
Just so I understand...
So, when you plug your Zaurus into power the charging light does NOT come one?
How does the battery look? How are the contacts on the battery? clean?
I'm not sure if the 5X00's have a battery cover switch, but I know on the XX00's if the switch is in the wrong place, the zaurus will appear as dead unless the switch is moved.

When is the last time it worked?
Did it just stop working while you were using it, or had it been sitting a long time without being used?
How long have you owned it? Do you use it with AC/DC or just battery?
If it is very old and was used a lot, you may need to buy a new battery. They should be available through amazon.com.
WE also have a Spanish member, Baptista, who owns an sl5500, I believe. Donde esta??? ;)

Experience same problem
Hello. I'm hoping this thread is still active, because I also have a dead collie. I hadn't used it in a year since I had purchased a Tosa and a Terrier. When I pulled the collie out of storage and recharged it, it booted up fine into Cacko, but when I tried to reflash back to the Sharp ROM (planned on selling it), it seemed to fail because the LED just went black after a few seconds, and afterwards, I have not been able to reflash or get any indication that it is working in any way...no lights. I've also tried a new battery with no success. Did I just create a very fancy paper weight?
Also wanted to mention that I am having a ton of fun with my terrier since I've flashed it to Meanie's pdaXii3 last year. You guys are great.

You just activated it! I know nothing about flashing, but you might also try posting your query at the sl5500 group at http://groups.yahoo.com, which specializes in the sl5500. You could also try oesf, but I'm not sure which subforum would get you the best response.
If you join the yahoo group, you can search the private archives there, as well, to see past threads on the issue of possibly dead collies.

Sorry if these sound like silly questions, but...
-had you flashed this zaurus before?
-can you explain the steps you took when flashing?
-have you tried leaving it unplugged and without a battery in it for 12-24 hours?

Hello. I've flashed it before a few times trying out different distros before finally settling on Cacko. I will try leaving it unplugged and without a battery in it for 24 hours. That's something I haven't tried yet. Thank you for your suggestion.

I'm not sure on the 5X00, but on the XX00's you can only flash when plugged into the mains.

Huh? The mains? You mean you can only flash when it's plugged into the wall? Would it hurt to have the battery in at the same time instead of draining the battery?

Oh, I get it...do you want to see if it reverts to whatever is there if it still has a distro, instead of the partly flashed mess? I'd consult an sl5500 flashiing expert. I know there's good info via the sl5500 mailing list. It's fairly inactive, but people will usually respond if a query is posted.
